Planning
The initial stage of many projects requires strategic thought and good planning to improve the likelihood of passing statutory hurdles, achieve quality goals and obtain successful outcomes.
Maxim works with our clients to develops strategic consent frameworks aimed to recognise and manage risks during the process of applying for consents or the necessary statutory planning approvals. A strategic approach to consenting can often reduce costs and risks, particularly of prolonged litigation. We have successfully delivered consents for major projects, with issues addressed positively and appeals resolved, to enable them to be brought forward in the Client implementation programme.
The need to incorporate sustainable principles is recognised and applied as necessary to each project.
Masterplanning
Our experience in undertaking strategic studies and planning for growth includes a wide range of development projects. We have developed action plans and monitoring and risk strategies for achieving specific goals for a wide variety of clients. Applications where we have developed strategic studies or plans include:
- strategic planning for business, including advice on investment decisions and project feasibility.
- master planning, structure planning and comprehensive catchment planning for creating sustainable environments, in partnership with local communities
- Industry specific strategy studies in, subdivision, community development and industrial estates
- strategic studies for industrial and rural areas to identify future issues, options and requirements/market demands
- urban growth management, activity centre planning and design.
Our experienced strategy leaders are strong facilitators, a key skill in growth studies and management strategies. In our experience, successful strategies are based on developing sound methodologies (often involving charettes, workshops or focus groups) to help give structure and focus to the voices and aspirations of the community or organisation concerned.
The development process can be challenging whether you are a developer, a community group, or a local authority. Maxims experience across both the public and private sectors can ease the process for you.
Statutory Planning
Our approach is based on:
- sound understanding of planning legislation, council processes and project management practices;
- no-nonsense and straight talking - if we believe an application should be handled in a particular way (for example, by being publicly notified) we say so and explain why;
- Building strong contacts and relationships with local authority staff (who we work closely with in different capacities). With deeper understanding of council’s requirements, our advice can save time for both councils and clients; and
- Thorough and professional advice that is also supported by extensive experience.
